The Malta Football Association has stopped short of publicly declaring whether it supports FIFA or UEFA over the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), amid an increasingly public disagreement between the two governing bodies.

This news portal submitted questions to the Malta FA in an attempt to establish the Association’s position on the controversial proposal. However, rather than responding to the questions individually, the Association issued a general statement outlining its ongoing consultations and monitoring of the situation.

The Malta FA confirmed that it has been following developments closely and has been in contact with both UEFA and FIFA, while also consulting fellow member associations.

The Association also confirmed that it attended UEFA’s emergency meeting on the issue and has held discussions with FIFA officials. It said that it would continue to monitor developments before determining its position.

However, the statement did not explicitly indicate whether the Malta FA supports the UEFA position, the FIFA proposal, or neither side.

The issue centres on FIFA’s proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise, which has become a source of tension with UEFA. UEFA has publicly raised concerns over the proposal, particularly in relation to FIFA potentially selling a minority commercial stake in its competitions.

With football associations in Europe increasingly being asked to clarify their positions, the Malta FA’s decision not to directly answer the six questions leaves its stance unclear.

The Association’s response indicates that consultation remains ongoing, with Malta continuing to assess developments and discussions between the two international governing bodies.

For the time being, therefore, the Malta FA has confirmed its involvement in the discussions but has not publicly stated whether it backs FIFA, UEFA or neither on the FFE proposal.
