Malta will face Liechtenstein in an international friendly at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali on 27 September 2026, as the National Team continues its preparations for the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign.

The match, which kicks off at 18:30 CEST, will be played during the extended September international window and will provide Head Coach Emilio De Leo with an important opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the crucial Nations League fixtures.

Malta begin their UEFA Nations League campaign away to Andorra before returning home to face Gibraltar, with the friendly against Liechtenstein scheduled in between those two competitive matches.

The fixture also comes during the first year in which FIFA’s revised international match calendar comes into effect. Under the new format, the traditional three autumn international windows have been reduced to two, with the September and October windows combined into a single extended period that can accommodate up to four matches. The November international window remains unchanged.

The encounter with Liechtenstein is expected to allow De Leo to evaluate the form of his players, further integrate members of the squad and maintain match sharpness throughout the longer international window. It also presents another valuable opportunity for the Malta National Team to gain international experience as they continue their preparations for the UEFA Nations League campaign.
