One of the most anticipated transfers in Swedish football was finally confirmed on August 9, with Elliot Stroud completing his move from Mjallby to Premier League newcomers Hull City.

Hull reportedly fended off interest from several clubs across Europe to secure the Swedish international on a four-year contract, with an option to extend the deal by another 12 months. The transfer fee has not been disclosed.

Stroud is capable of playing in several positions on the left side and featured in all four of Sweden’s matches at the 2026 World Cup. Remarkably, the tournament came just weeks after he made his senior international debut during Sweden’s pre-World Cup warm-up fixtures.

The 24-year-old caught the attention of Sweden manager Graham Potter following an outstanding campaign with Mjallby during their surprise Allsvenskan title triumph in 2025. Stroud scored nine goals and provided five assists in 28 league appearances, while also helping the club from the small fishing community lift the Swedish Cup earlier this year.

He continued to contribute in 2026, recording four goal involvements in 10 Allsvenskan appearances before making the move to England.

Stroud’s final appearance for Mjallby came in their UEFA Champions League qualifying clash with Slovan Bratislava on August 4. He converted from the penalty spot, but Mjallby conceded late on to suffer a 2-1 defeat in the first leg.

The 24-year-old has an English father but is now set to embark on the first overseas chapter of his career after coming through the youth ranks at IK Oddevold.

Stroud expressed his excitement at joining Hull City and said the move was an opportunity he immediately wanted to pursue.

“I am super happy and super excited to get started here. When I first heard of the interest, it was the only thing I wanted to do,” he said.

After speaking with the club’s chairman, Stroud said he became even more convinced that Hull was the right destination.

“I spoke with the chairman and I got an even better impression of the club and everything around it. I have individual hopes to play at the highest level possible. When an opportunity like this comes, it’s not something you take lightly. To do it here in Hull is a very exciting opportunity.

“I had a fantastic time at Mjallby. We had an amazing run, won the cup, the league. I felt I was ready for the next chapter and I’m really looking forward to making some statements here as well.”
