Como have completed the signing of England international Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea for a reported €30 million fee, the Serie A club confirmed on Sunday.

The 27-year-old defender has signed a five-year contract with Cesc Fabregas’ ambitious side, who are preparing to compete in the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

“I can’t wait to bring my experience to the team, feel the incredible atmosphere at the stadium, and connect with the fans,” said Chalobah, who made 151 appearances for Chelsea.

“I will give my absolute all every single day to make history together.”

Como secured Italy’s fourth and final Champions League spot last season, finishing ahead of AC Milan and Juventus in the race for European football’s premier competition.

Scudetto holders Inter Milan had also been strongly linked with a move for Chalobah, but reportedly decided against pursuing the deal after being put off by Chelsea’s asking price.

“Trevoh is an important signing for us and a player who represents the level of ambition we have at this club,” said Como coach Cesc Fabregas, who previously played for Chelsea.

“He is a leader who can raise the level of the team, and I am very happy that he has chosen Como.”

Chalobah was also part of the England squad at the World Cup, earning a late call-up after being selected as a replacement for the injured Tino Livramento.

The defender could make his Como debut against Udinese when the club begin their Serie A campaign on August 22.
