Barcelona continued their remarkable scoring form and maintained their perfect start to the LaLiga season, putting seven past Racing Santander in a convincing 7-2 victory. It marked the fifth time this campaign that Barca have scored at least five goals in a competitive match, while Racing are still searching for their first away point since returning to the top flight.

Barcelona had already scored 21 goals across their opening five league fixtures, their best tally at this stage since 2011, and they wasted no time adding to that figure. They opened the scoring in the eighth minute through an outstanding finish from Joao Cancelo.

After receiving a cut-back from Lamine Yamal, the full-back created space before curling a powerful right-footed effort from around 25 yards. His strike clipped the underside of the crossbar before finding the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

The hosts completely controlled the opening 20 minutes, creating a number of chances to extend their advantage. Raphinha saw an effort kept out by Julen Agirrezabala, while Dani Olmo sent a shot narrowly wide.

Karim Adeyemi also came close when he lifted an effort over the advancing goalkeeper, but his attempt drifted just beyond the far post..

Barcelona’s pressure paid off midway through the opening half when Pedri released Raphinha into the box before being brought down by Pedro Felipe. Raphinha quickly got back to his feet and calmly sent Agirrezabala the wrong way from the spot to double the hosts’ advantage.

Racing had entered the round with only the four leading teams having scored more goals than them, and the visitors demonstrated their attacking threat just after the half-hour mark. Maguette Gueye collected a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area, weaved past several defenders and produced a composed finish to cut the deficit in half.

Barcelona restored their two-goal cushion just six minutes later. Cancelo once again found himself with space outside the box and unleashed a powerful strike from around 30 yards, with the effort taking a deflection that wrong-footed Agirrezabala on its way into the net.

Hansi Flick’s team showed no signs of slowing down before the interval, with Raphinha joining Cancelo in scoring twice during the opening 45 minutes. A superb passing sequence involving Rodri, Adeyemi and Olmo created the opening for the Brazilian, who calmly finished to register his eighth league goal in six appearances.

Barcelona were awarded another penalty in the final minute of the first half after Pedro Felipe brought down Adeyemi inside the area, giving the defender his second foul leading to a spot-kick. However, Lamine Yamal’s effort lacked power and direction, allowing Agirrezabala to make a comfortable save.

The second half continued at a frantic pace, with chances arriving almost as frequently as the rain at Camp Nou. Lamine Yamal struck the post shortly after Juan Carlos Arana missed a golden opportunity for Los Verdiblancos, side-footing his effort wide.

Wojciech Szczesny was introduced at the interval after Joan Garcia was forced off with an injury, but the Polish goalkeeper endured a difficult start to the second half. He was pressured by Yassir Zabiri, who dispossessed him inside the area before calmly rolling the ball into an unguarded net to score his sixth goal of the season.

The setback quickly prompted a response from the hosts. Barcelona attacked immediately and won their third penalty of the match when Adeyemi was brought down by Iker Luque Sierra. Raphinha stepped up and confidently placed his effort into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick.

It was another frustrating moment for Lamine Yamal, who saw a goal ruled out for offside. However, with 11 minutes remaining, he turned provider as his perfectly weighted through ball found Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian opened up his body before calmly guiding the ball home to score his first league goal for Barcelona.

Racing came close to adding another late on when Zabiri was denied a second goal by a crucial goal-line clearance. Barcelona then launched an attack down the left, with Adeyemi cutting the ball back for Lamine Yamal, who made no mistake with the finish this time.

The victory extended Barcelona’s remarkable run to nine consecutive head-to-head wins over Racing, while the visitors remain without a victory at Camp Nou since 1983.
