Għajnsielem maintained their perfect start to the BOV Gozo Football League First Division campaign as they defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 2-0 at the Gozo Stadium on Friday.

Goals from Jhon Alejandro Gonzales Castillo and Ewertton Jose Spirandelli Costa, better known as TomTom, secured a second successive victory for Għajnsielem, who moved three points clear at the top of the standings.

Għajnsielem made an ideal start to the encounter, taking the lead after just four minutes through Gonzales Castillo.

The early breakthrough gave Għajnsielem the advantage as they sought to build on their opening-day victory over Sannat Lions.

Victoria Wanderers, who had started their league campaign with a 2-1 victory over Xagħra United, were unable to find a way back into the contest.

With Għajnsielem holding a slender one-goal advantage, the match remained open until the closing stages.

However, Għajnsielem put the result beyond doubt in the 81st minute when they were awarded a penalty.

TomTom stepped up to convert from the spot, doubling his side’s advantage and securing all three points.

The victory leaves Għajnsielem alone at the top of the standings with six points from their opening two matches, while Victoria Wanderers remain on three points after suffering their first defeat of the season.

Xewkija Tigers also have three points, having played one match fewer.
