Swieqi end Mġarr’s unbeaten run as four teams share league lead

Swieqi United ended Mġarr United’s 26-match domestic unbeaten run with a 1–0 victory on Matchday Three of the Assikura Women’s League, while Hibernians and Valletta both scored five in convincing wins.
The results left Swieqi, Hibernians, Valletta and defending champions Mġarr level on six points after three matches, with Birkirkara on three and San Ġwann still seeking their first point.
Mġarr United 0–1 Swieqi United
Jade Flask scored the decisive goal in the 65th minute as Swieqi inflicted Mġarr’s first domestic defeat since September 2025.
Swieqi had also been responsible for that previous loss, beating Mġarr in last season’s Super Cup before the champions embarked on their lengthy unbeaten sequence.
After a goalless first half, Flask broke the deadlock and Dorianne Theuma’s side held on to secure an important victory over their title rivals.
The result provided a response to Swieqi’s 4–1 defeat against Mġarr in this season’s Super Cup. Having also lost 2–1 to Hibernians in their league opener, Swieqi have now registered successive wins following their 7–0 success against San Ġwann.
For Mġarr, the defeat halted a perfect start to their title defence after victories over Valletta and Hibernians.

Birkirkara 1–5 Hibernians
Violet Wanyonyi marked her Hibernians debut with a hat-trick as the Paolites defeated Birkirkara 5–1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
The Kenya international opened the scoring in the 11th minute, giving Martina Borg’s side a narrow half-time advantage.
Wanyonyi then struck in the 54th and 57th minutes to complete her treble and put Hibernians firmly in control. Ivana Trbojevic added a fourth from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.
Momo Ueda pulled a goal back for Birkirkara in the 72nd minute, but Trbojevic scored again five minutes from time to complete the victory.
Hibernians bounced back from their 2–1 defeat against Mġarr in the previous round, while Birkirkara suffered a second successive loss following their narrow defeat to Valletta.

Valletta 5–0 San Ġwann
Valletta continued their encouraging start to the campaign with a comprehensive 5–0 victory over San Ġwann.
Salamatu Abdulai scored twice, with Brenda Borg, Mia Bookhard and Alexia Fite also on target as the newly promoted side secured a second consecutive win.
Abdulai opened the scoring in the 30th minute before Borg doubled the lead six minutes later.
Bookhard made it 3–0 in the 54th minute, with Abdulai adding her second in the 70th. Fite completed the scoring five minutes later.
Following their opening defeat to Mġarr, Salvatore Mango’s side have beaten Birkirkara and San Ġwann, scoring six goals without reply across those two matches.
San Ġwann remain without a point after three outings.
