Manchester City are preparing for the next phase of negotiations over Rodri’s potential move to Barcelona, with talks between the clubs now reopening.

Sources have told Flashscore that contact has resumed over a possible transfer to Barcelona, with negotiations potentially moving quickly in the coming days.

Barcelona initially tested the waters with an offer of around €45 million for Rodri, but the proposal was rejected by Manchester City, who considered it well below their valuation of the midfielder.

City are expecting a fresh formal bid and currently value Rodri at closer to €80 million. The Premier League club are also aware that Barcelona’s financial position could improve following the expected sale of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee exceeding €50 million.

However, Barcelona are not expected to immediately match City’s asking price. Instead, discussions are now focused on whether the two clubs can find a compromise over the midfielder’s valuation.

The negotiations are understood to be amicable, with both Barcelona and Rodri increasingly confident that a deal can be reached.

The key question is how far Manchester City are prepared to lower their valuation.

Despite Rodri having just one year remaining on his contract, City regard the Spain international as one of the world’s best defensive midfielders and are determined to secure a substantial fee should he leave the club.

The Premier League champions were reportedly frustrated by the way the transfer saga initially developed, but they are now hopeful of conducting respectful and constructive negotiations with Barcelona.

Barcelona are equally keen to maintain a positive relationship throughout the process, while there is growing expectation that talks over Rodri’s potential return to Spain will accelerate in the near future.
