Kerċem Ajax moved onto six points in the GFA BOV Gozo Football League First Division after edging Xagħra United 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at the Gozo Stadium on Friday.

Isaias Moura Vera Cruz De Souza was the hero for Kerċem, scoring twice in the second half, including the decisive goal two minutes from time.

Xagħra made the perfect start when they were awarded a penalty after just four minutes, with Ibrahim Salis converting from the spot to put his side ahead.

Kerċem restored parity two minutes before half-time. Natal Cidley Severiano found the net following an assist from Nenem to send the two sides into the interval level at 1-1.

The match burst into life again midway through the second half. De Souza put Kerċem ahead for the first time in the 63rd minute, but their advantage lasted just two minutes as Joseph Chilaka Agbakwuru equalised for Xagħra.

With the match seemingly heading towards a draw, De Souza struck again in the 88th minute to complete his brace and give Kerċem a dramatic 3-2 victory.

The result lifted Kerċem onto six points from three matches, three behind leaders Għajnsielem. SK Victoria Wanderers are also on six points, while Xagħra remain on three.
