Late Roe strike earns Hibernians dramatic draw against Ħamrun Spartans

Ħamrun Spartans 2–2 Hibernians
Jayden Roe struck a spectacular stoppage-time equaliser as Hibernians twice came from behind to hold Ħamrun Spartans to a 2-2 draw in an entertaining Premier League encounter.
Ħamrun appeared to be heading towards their fourth successive victory after goals from Jake Grech and Marcello Trotta had twice given them the lead. However, the Paolites showed determination to fight back, with Roe’s late intervention securing a valuable point.
The Spartans made the brighter start and threatened after nine minutes when Lucas Villela controlled the ball inside the penalty area but directed his effort wide.
Ħamrun broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when a long pass from Ante Coric towards Villela was deflected by a Hibernians defender into the path of Trotta. The Italian striker laid the ball off to Grech, who made no mistake with his finish.
Hibernians protested that Villela had been in an offside position, but following an FVS review, the goal was allowed to stand as the forward was deemed not to have interfered with play.
The Paolites enjoyed spells of possession but struggled to create clear opportunities, while Ħamrun continued to look dangerous.
On 34 minutes, Coric almost doubled the advantage with a free-kick that was diverted by goalkeeper Cardinali onto the upright. Shortly afterwards, Trotta combined with Villela before sending his effort narrowly wide.
Hibernians restored parity in the 43rd minute when Dexter Xuereb delivered an inviting cross which Moritz Romling met with a powerful header beyond Gianluca Marcheggiani.
Ħamrun introduced Gonzalo Virano in place of Matthew Guillaumier at half-time and resumed their attacking approach after the interval.
However, Hibernians created an early opportunity through Mouad El Fanis, whose effort sailed over the crossbar.
The Spartans regained the lead in the 61st minute when Coric picked out Grech, whose deflected shot fell kindly to Trotta. The Italian striker reacted quickly to fire home and restore his side’s advantage.
Hibernians refused to surrender and gradually increased the pressure in search of another equaliser.
With 13 minutes remaining, Isaiah Chukunyere tested Marcheggiani with a header, while Paul Mbong also threatened in the closing stages, only to be denied by the Ħamrun goalkeeper.
Kurt Shaw then headed over from a promising position in stoppage time as the Paolites continued to press forward.
Their persistence was finally rewarded in the third minute of added time when substitute Jayden Roe unleashed a superb drive into the net, leaving Ħamrun stunned and sparking celebrations among the Hibernians supporters.
The dramatic conclusion denied Ħamrun a fourth consecutive victory, while Hibernians earned a deserved point through their resilience and determination.
