Liverpool Suffer Injury Concerns Over Isak and Gakpo as Jacquet Returns Ahead of Man City Clash

Liverpool are facing injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s crucial clash with Manchester City, with Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo both struggling with fitness issues.
Isak returned early from international duty with Sweden after sustaining a minor thigh problem, while Gakpo picked up an ankle injury during the Netherlands’ victory over Serbia.
Jeremy Jacquet also suffered a left hamstring strain while representing France, forcing him to miss their 4-1 win against Belgium. His absence raised concerns, particularly after his promising performances alongside Virgil van Dijk under Andoni Iraola this season.
However, footage from Liverpool’s training camp has offered some encouragement, showing Jacquet back with the squad ahead of the weekend showdown with Manchester City. Isak and Gakpo, meanwhile, were both absent from training, leaving their availability for the match uncertain.
Speaking about the situation, Iraola confirmed that both attackers had returned from international duty with injuries.
“I think Alex Isak and Cody Gakpo both have had to leave the national teams with injuries,” he said.
“Now it’s a matter of whether they are going to recover in time to help us in the next game or not. But right now, they are both injured.”
Gakpo has made a strong contribution for Liverpool this season, recording two goals and four assists in six appearances, while Isak has scored four times in five Premier League outings.
Both forwards play an important role in Iraola’s attacking setup, making their potential absence a significant concern, particularly with Hugo Ekitike sidelined until December. Should neither player recover in time for Sunday’s encounter, Liverpool could find it difficult to create meaningful chances against Manchester City’s defence.
Liverpool currently occupy sixth place in the Premier League standings and remain unbeaten heading into the high-profile fixture. However, they face a City side sitting at the top of the table, and the visitors will be eager to capitalise on any weakness as they travel to Anfield.
