The Portuguese Football Federation’s Disciplinary Council announced on Saturday that it had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been provisionally suspended over his departure from the national team camp.

The case relates to the captain’s exit from the Portugal national team camp on September 30, on the eve of the Nations League match against Denmark.

In its official statement, the disciplinary body also confirmed that Ronaldo had been handed a provisional suspension while the proceedings continue.

Under the Portuguese Football Federation’s regulations, the 41-year-old forward could face a suspension ranging from one to six months, alongside a fine of between €500 and €1,000.

If Ronaldo receives the minimum one-month suspension, it could expire on October 30, potentially allowing him to return during the November international break, when the Nations League group stage is scheduled to conclude.

However, a maximum six-month ban would run until March 30, meaning Ronaldo could be forced to wait until the June international break to return to action for Portugal, who will be hoping to reach the competition’s finals.
