Clara Tauson retires injured against Marie Bouzkova in Wuhan

Clara Tauson was forced to retire from her opening-round match at the WTA Wuhan Open on Monday after struggling with a calf injury against Czech opponent Marie Bouzkova.
The Danish player, ranked world No. 44, withdrew while trailing 6-1, 2-0, as Bouzkova dominated proceedings in their first-round encounter in Wuhan, China.
Bouzkova, currently ranked 29th in the world, controlled the match from the outset, winning 35 points compared with just 13 for Tauson. The Czech secured the opening set in less than 30 minutes, leaving her opponent with little opportunity to find her rhythm.
Between sets, Tauson received medical treatment for the calf problem that was affecting her movement. Although she attempted to continue in the second set, it quickly became clear that she was struggling physically.
After suffering her fourth service break of the match, Tauson approached the chair umpire and decided to retire, bringing her Wuhan Open campaign to an early end.
The victory allows Marie Bouzkova to progress to the next round, while Tauson will hope to recover from the injury ahead of her upcoming tournaments.
