Paul Pogba suffered another injury setback on Tuesday, picking up a thigh problem during Monaco’s first training session of their camp in England, raising fresh uncertainty over his future with the club.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner sustained the injury to his left thigh as Monaco trained at England’s national football centre, St George’s Park.

The setback came just two days after Monaco secured a friendly victory over Liverpool and is particularly frustrating for Pogba, who had only recently returned to full team training following an extended absence caused by a right-knee issue.

The 33-year-old midfielder has endured a difficult period with injuries and has had limited opportunities to build up his fitness during pre-season.

Pogba has featured for just 45 minutes for Monaco during his pre-season campaign so far, making this latest injury another potential obstacle as he looks to regain his best form.

Further medical assessments will determine the seriousness of the thigh problem and how long Pogba could be sidelined.

According to several sources familiar with the situation, the latest injury suggests Pogba is still some distance away from reaching the fitness level needed to start the new Ligue 1 campaign.

Pogba returned to football after serving 18 months of a four-year doping ban. However, his comeback season with Monaco was limited, as he made just six Ligue 1 appearances and played a total of 115 minutes.
