Morocco came from behind to defeat a dogged Haiti team in their final match of group play at the FIFA World Cup 2026™. The Atlas Lions suffered a massive scare, with Les Grenadiers twice taking the lead, but a late flourish from the North Africans secured a 4-2 victory at Atlanta Stadium.

With the win, Morocco finishes second in Group C with seven points, booking a Round of 32 clash against the winners of Group F in Monterrey on June 29. Meanwhile, Haiti bows out of the tournament with their heads held high after a memorable performance.

An Action-Packed, Four-Goal First Half

Playing completely free of pressure, Haiti came out swinging, creating a thrilling, action-packed first half that produced four goals. They opened the scoring just ten minutes into the match through a moment of pure audacity. Fullback Jean-Kévin Duverne cut the ball back across the penalty area, allowing Lenny Joseph to execute a clever backheel flick. The ball ricocheted into the net off Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou for an own goal—but the deflection did nothing to dampen the wild celebrations of what was Haiti’s first World Cup goal in 52 years.

Haiti’s opener served as a wake-up call for the Atlas Lions. The Moroccans poured forward in search of an equalizer and, after seeing several excellent chances saved by Haitian custodian Johny Placide, finally breached the defense in the 39th minute. Deep into stoppage time, Hakimi turned provider, cutting the ball back for Ismael Saibari, who composedly sidefooted it home to send the teams into the tunnel locked at 2-2.

Morocco Squeezes Through in the Second Half

After the interval, Morocco gradually asserted control, methodically squeezing the Haitians and dominating possession. The relentless pressure finally told with just over ten minutes left on the clock. Soufiane Rahimi completed the Moroccan comeback in the 78th minute, reacting quickest to fire home a deflected shot following a corner kick.

As Haiti pushed forward late in a desperate bid to equalize, youngster Gessime Yassine put the game completely out of reach in the 89th minute, sliding home a fourth goal to guarantee the victory.

Haiti’s bright, fearless finish caps off an incredibly exciting return to the global stage after more than half a century. For Morocco, the hard-earned victory ensures their World Cup journey continues into the high-stakes knockout phase.
