Paris Saint-Germain defender Willian Pacho and Arsenal centre-back Piero Hincapié were opponents in Saturday’s Champions League final, but the pair will soon reunite as teammates after being selected in Ecuador’s squad for the FIFA World Cup by head coach Sebastian Beccacece.

The squad also includes AC Milan full-back Pervis Estupiñán, while Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo is expected to play a key role in shielding the defence and providing balance in midfield.

Caicedo will be available for Ecuador’s World Cup opener against Ivory Coast on June 14 after FIFA recently amended its regulations regarding minor suspension offences accumulated during the qualification campaign.

Leading the line for La Tri will be veteran striker Enner Valencia. The 36-year-old captain remains Ecuador’s all-time leading scorer, having netted 49 goals in 105 international appearances, and is set to be one of the team’s most important figures at the tournament.

Valencia is set to appear at his third FIFA World Cup and will be aiming to add to the six goals he has already scored on football’s biggest stage. The tournament will take place across the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.

Before their World Cup campaign begins, Ecuador will play a friendly against Guatemala on Sunday as part of their final preparations. They have been drawn into Group E, where they will face Curacao on June 20 before taking on Germany five days later.

This will be Ecuador’s fifth appearance at the World Cup. Their best performance came in 2006, when they reached the Round of 16 before being eliminated by England.
