Manchester City have secured the signing of England midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a deal reportedly worth £116 million.

The 23-year-old heads to the Etihad Stadium after an outstanding spell at Forest, where his consistent performances earned him a place in the England squad and established him as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders.

According to reports, City will pay the full £116 million transfer fee upfront, with no instalments, making Anderson’s move the fifth-most expensive transfer in football history.

“Manchester City and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement for the transfer of Elliot Anderson,” the club said in a statement.

The statement added that Anderson, who is currently representing England at the FIFA World Cup, has already completed his medical in Kansas. The remaining paperwork will be finalised once he returns to England.

Until then, Manchester City said they wish Anderson and the England squad every success in their World Cup campaign and look forward to officially welcoming him to the club after the tournament.

Anderson came through Newcastle United’s academy before gaining valuable first-team experience during a loan spell at Bristol Rovers. He later established himself in Newcastle‘s senior squad with a series of impressive performances.

However, the club’s need to comply with financial regulations led to his transfer to Nottingham Forest, where he flourished over the next two seasons. His rapid development turned him into one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders.

The 23-year-old is currently representing England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has featured in every match for the Three Lions so far in the tournament.
