Harry Wilson joins Leeds United on four-year deal after Fulham exit
Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly rated Dutch midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax, with the 18-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract, the Premier League club confirmed on Thursday.
The Netherlands Under-19 international arrives at St James‘ Park after spending more than a decade in Ajax’s renowned academy, having joined the Dutch giants at the age of seven before rising through the club’s youth ranks.
Ajax confirmed that the transfer could be worth up to €27 million ($31 million), making Steur one of the most expensive academy departures in the club’s recent history.
Steur shared his excitement after completing his move to Newcastle United, describing the transfer as a dream opportunity to compete in the Premier League.
The young midfielder also explained the style of football he hopes to bring to Eddie Howe’s team.
Steur will wear the No. 14 shirt at St James’ Park and becomes Newcastle United’s third senior signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen and Ivorian winger Bazoumana Toure.
Newcastle will begin their Premier League campaign at home against Liverpool on August 23.
