Sunderland Sign Belgium Defender Thomas Meunier on Two-Year Deal, Sunderland have completed the signing of experienced Belgium international Thomas Meunier on a two-year contract after the defender left French club Lille, the Premier League side confirmed on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old joins the Black Cats as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Lille, where he made 35 appearances across all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking after completing the move, Meunier expressed his excitement about joining Sunderland and competing in the Premier League.
“When Sunderland contacted me about becoming part of their project, it was an easy decision. Playing in the Premier League is a huge opportunity, and for me, it represents an even bigger stage than European football,” he said.
Meunier brings a wealth of top-level experience to Wearside, having previously enjoyed successful spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund, spending four seasons at each club. The veteran full-back has also earned 83 international caps for Belgium and featured for his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
