Carlos Alcaraz Set to Return at Cincinnati Open After Injury Absence

World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz is expected to make his return to competitive tennis at next month’s Cincinnati Open after being included on the tournament entry list.

The Spaniard has been sidelined since April after suffering an injury during the opening round of the Barcelona Open. If he takes part in Cincinnati, it will mark his first appearance on tour since that setback.

Following the injury, Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the Madrid Open and Italian Open before missing Roland Garros, where he entered as the two-time defending champion.

The 22-year-old also sat out Wimbledon, a tournament where his rival Jannik Sinner successfully defended his title by defeating Alexander Zverev in the final on the London grass. Zverev had previously claimed victory at the French Open on the clay courts of Paris.

A potential return at the Cincinnati Open would give Carlos Alcaraz a valuable opportunity to rebuild his match fitness and regain momentum ahead of his US Open title defence at Flushing Meadows later in August.

The tournament could serve as an important preparation event for the Spaniard as he looks to return to peak form before attempting to retain his Grand Slam crown on the New York hard courts.
