FC Copenhagen sign Czech international Alex Král on free transfer

FC Copenhagen have completed the signing of Czech international Alex Král on a free transfer, with the experienced midfielder becoming the first arrival under new sporting director Kristjaan Speakman.

The 28-year-old reunites with head coach Bo Svensson, having previously worked under the Danish coach during their time together at Union Berlin.

Král arrives in Copenhagen after building an impressive career across several European leagues. The midfielder has made 73 Bundesliga appearances and previously represented Teplice, Slavia Prague, Spartak Moscow, West Ham United, Schalke 04, Union Berlin, and Espanyol.

The midfielder also brings valuable international experience, having earned 48 caps for the Czech Republic and featuring in the nation’s squad at UEFA Euro 2020.

Speaking to the FC Copenhagen website after completing the move, Král expressed his excitement about the next chapter of his career.

“I am proud to be joining FC Copenhagen, a club I have followed for several years and one that consistently leaves its mark on European football.

“I know the club endured a difficult season, but that only motivates me even more to help the team return to where it belongs.”

Král is eager to embrace the pressure that comes with representing one of Scandinavia’s biggest clubs.

“I know expectations are high in Copenhagen, and that’s exactly what appeals to me.

“I’ve always performed at my best when there’s something at stake, and I’ll give everything to help lift this team.

“I’m looking forward to proving myself in the Danish Superliga, and it’s my dream to play in the UEFA Champions League.”
