Alexander-Arnold enjoying life under Mourinho as Real Madrid prepare for new season

Trent Alexander-Arnold has described it as “a pleasure” to work under Jose Mourinho, saying the returning Real Madrid manager’s demanding approach can help the Spanish giants challenge for major trophies this season.

Mourinho returned to the Santiago Bernabéu in June for a second spell in charge after Madrid endured a frustrating 2025-26 campaign. The club finished without the LaLiga title and suffered an early exit from the UEFA Champions League, prompting a managerial change ahead of the new season.

Speaking about his first weeks under Mourinho, Alexander-Arnold praised the Portuguese coach’s winning mentality and high standards.

“I’ve always admired the coach. I’ve played against him a couple of times, and it’s a pleasure to work with him and his staff,” Alexander-Arnold said.

The England international admitted training has been demanding but believes the squad will benefit from Mourinho’s experience.

“It’s intense. The principles and the level of demand are very high. I’m looking forward to getting to know him better, learning more from him, and seeing how much he can teach us. We’re all eager to improve.”

Alexander-Arnold is confident Mourinho’s leadership can make a significant difference as Madrid target silverware across multiple competitions.

“I’m sure he’ll teach us many things and help us win trophies this year.”

The 27-year-old joined Real Madrid from Liverpool last year but endured a difficult debut campaign in Spain after injuries disrupted his progress. As a result, he found himself rotating in and out of the starting lineup throughout the season.

However, the departure of Dani Carvajal in May has created a major opportunity for Alexander-Arnold to cement his place as Madrid’s first-choice right-back heading into the new campaign.

After spending months on the sidelines, the defender says he is delighted to be back to full fitness.

“I’ve been out of action for a long time, so it’s great to finally be back and build a solid foundation for a successful season.”

Real Madrid will kick off their 2026-27 LaLiga campaign against Espanyol on August 22, with Mourinho aiming to make an immediate impact in his return to the Spanish capital.
