Maltese athletes delivered a series of competitive performances at the ISSF World Cup shotgun events, which concluded on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. Competing against the world’s elite, Team Malta showed great determination across both the Skeet and Trap disciplines.

Trap Men: Chetcuti Shines in Massive Field

In the Trap Men event, Gianluca Chetcuti led the Maltese contingent with a highly impressive performance.

• Gianluca Chetcuti: Finished 30th out of 208 competitors with a stellar score of 119/125.
• William Chetcuti: Finished with a solid 115/125.
• James Galea Jr: Managed a score of 114/125.
• Christopher Vella: Shot for Ranking Points Only (RPO) and finished with 112/125.

Skeet Events: Farrugia and Sciberras Lead the Men

The Skeet categories saw consistent shooting from both the male and female Maltese athletes.

• Mikaela Galea (Skeet Women): Hit a total of 101/125 targets.
• Clive Farrugia (Skeet Men): Finished with 113/125 targets.
• Liam Sciberras (Skeet Men): Matched the pace with 113/125.
• Andre Cassar (Skeet Men): Concluded his event with a score of 110/125.

International Giants Set New World Records

The tournament also witnessed historic milestones from the overall event winners:

• Skeet Men Gold: Won by Vincent Hancock (USA), who shot 124/125 (+11 shoot-off) in qualification, followed by a perfect, World Record score of 36/36 in the finals.
• Trap Men Gold: Claimed by Erminio Frasca (ITA) with a qualification score of 122/125 (+18 shoot-off) and a perfect World Record of 30/30 in the final stage.

Technical Support and Looking Ahead

Team Malta was backed by a dedicated technical setup. The Skeet team was guided by Coach Bruno Gubellini and Team Official John Mary Bugeja. The Trap team was supported by Coach Antonino Barillà and Team Official Nicholas Carabott.

The Malta Shooting Sport Federation (MSSF) shifts its focus to the next major international appointment. Maltese shooters will travel to Wroclaw, Poland, for the European Under-23 Championships, scheduled between 5 and 11 August 2026.
