Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly rated midfielder Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco, with the 20-year-old agreeing to a five-year contract at St James’ Park.

The Premier League club confirmed the deal on Friday, with reports in the British media suggesting Newcastle will pay an initial £30 million transfer fee, with additional performance-related add-ons included.

Bamba came through the renowned Monaco academy system before making his first-team debut for the Ligue 1 side last season. The midfielder quickly established himself as an important squad member, making 25 appearances across all competitions.

His breakthrough campaign included featuring in both legs of Monaco’s UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off tie against Paris Saint-Germain, gaining valuable experience at the highest level of European football.

Speaking after completing his move to England, Bamba expressed his excitement about joining Newcastle and testing himself in the Premier League.

“I’m excited to test myself in a new league, the biggest league in the world,” Bamba said in a club statement.

“I learned a lot last season and now I feel ready for this new opportunity. I will give my all for this club.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe believes the young midfielder has the potential to develop into an important player for the club.

“Aladji adds depth and a range of qualities to our midfield options, with huge potential for growth,” Howe said.

“His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and something we believe we can help him build on.

“He operates in a deeper role but has the ability to contribute all over the pitch, which he demonstrated in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season.”

Bamba becomes another addition to Newcastle’s long-term recruitment strategy, with the club continuing to invest in talented young players capable of developing into key figures for the future.
