Done deal: Stuttgart complete €15 million move for Feyenoord Winger Leo Sauer

Official: Leo Sauer completes €15 million move from Feyenoord to VfB Stuttgart
Leo Sauer has officially completed his transfer from Feyenoord to VfB Stuttgart, with the Bundesliga club confirming the deal on Wednesday.
According to reports, Stuttgart agreed to pay an initial €15 million transfer fee, with performance-related bonuses potentially increasing the total value of the deal to €17 million. The 20-year-old Slovak winger has signed a five-year contract with the German side.
News of Sauer’s transfer emerged earlier this week, ending speculation that had also linked him with a move to TSG Hoffenheim. After finishing fourth in the Bundesliga last season, Stuttgart secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League, offering Sauer the opportunity to compete at Europe’s highest level.
Speaking after completing the move, Sauer expressed his excitement about the next chapter of his career.
“It’s fantastic to be part of such a prestigious club. VfB Stuttgart has great prestige, a rich tradition, and a huge fan base. I can’t wait to meet all my teammates and play for my new club for the first time. My goal is to be as successful as possible with VfB in all three competitions,” Sauer told the club’s official website.
Sauer enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 20 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord. He also found the net once in six UEFA Europa League matches.
The Slovak international joined Feyenoord from MŠK Žilina and spent the 2024/25 season on loan at NAC Breda, where he gained valuable first-team experience before establishing himself in Rotterdam.
Sauer further enhanced his reputation on the international stage in September 2025, playing a key role in Slovakia’s 2-0 victory over Germany during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Operating on the left wing, he delivered one of the standout performances of the match and consistently troubled German right-back Nnamdi Collins.
VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth believes Sauer has all the attributes to become an important player for the club.
“Leo has repeatedly shown his quality in the Dutch Eredivisie, the Europa League, and with the Slovak national team. For us, he is a player with a bright future, and not just because of his age. His signing comes from our strong belief that in the coming years we can further strengthen and expand our attacking approach and playing style,” Wohlgemuth said.
