Malta FIFA referee Ishmael Barbara has attended the UEFA Referee Summer Course, joining some of Europe’s leading match officials as part of their preparations for the new football season.

The prestigious course brought together top referees from across Europe for an intensive programme designed to ensure officials are technically, physically and professionally prepared for the challenges awaiting them during the campaign.

Barbara took part in a series of practical and theoretical sessions covering several important aspects of modern refereeing.

Particular attention was devoted to ensuring consistency in decision-making, together with the latest interpretations and applications of the Laws of the Game.

Match management was another key element of the programme, with UEFA seeking to ensure that its officials continue to maintain the high standards required in European competitions.

Participants were also involved in video analysis and physical preparation sessions, providing referees with an opportunity to examine different match situations while working on the fitness levels necessary to officiate at the highest level.

The course also enabled Barbara to exchange experiences with other leading European referees and work closely with UEFA referee instructors and technical experts.

Barbara’s participation represents another important step in his development as an international referee and provided the Maltese official with valuable preparation ahead of his assignments during the forthcoming international season.
