French prosecutors have called for prison sentences of up to 10 years for three men accused of holding Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his pregnant girlfriend captive during a violent burglary at their Paris home.

Donnarumma, 27, and Alessia Elefante were reportedly tied up and threatened during the frightening incident at their luxury apartment on Avenue Montaigne in central Paris in July 2023, a French court heard.

At the time, the Italy international was playing for Paris Saint-Germain before completing a move to Manchester City in 2025.

During closing arguments at the Paris Criminal Court, prosecutors requested prison terms ranging from four to 10 years for the three defendants accused of organising or taking part in the robbery.

The longest sentence, 10 years, was requested for 21-year-old Ilyas Kherbouch, also known as “Ganito”. Kherbouch previously attracted attention after escaping from Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis, north of Paris, in March.

Prosecutors also sought nine years in prison for Khyan M., 22, known as “Kiki”, and six years for Moktar D., who is accused of being one of the burglars. Kherbouch and Khyan are both suspected of helping organise the robbery while in custody.

In the early hours of July 21, 2023, Donnarumma and his partner were reportedly awakened and held captive by four masked men who entered their ninth-floor apartment through the rooftops.

The court heard that Elefante subsequently suffered a miscarriage, which was attributed to the trauma caused by the incident.

A seven-man gang, with some members still unidentified, reportedly escaped within minutes with cash, jewellery, watches and luxury handbags. Donnarumma estimated the total value of the stolen property at just under €1 million (£857,000).

During his closing statement, the prosecutor said the exclusive Avenue Montaigne area had increasingly become a target for a younger generation of criminals, pointing to seven celebrities who were victims of similar crimes between 2022 and 2025.

The prosecution described the offences as highly profitable and extremely violent, while noting that criminals were increasingly targeting prominent figures.

The second and final day of the high-profile trial passed without major incident. Kherbouch apologised to police officers he had reportedly insulted during Thursday’s proceedings, as well as to the court.

The two men accused of masterminding the operation denied any involvement when questioned, despite prosecutors presenting messages and photographs recovered from phones they had been using while in custody.

Moktar D., the only defendant alleged to have been present at the scene, claimed he was only acting as a lookout from the roof of a building opposite the couple’s apartment.

Another man, a childhood friend who was also implicated in the case and accused of acting as an informant, died by suicide while in prison.
