Aston Villa became just the third English club this century to record 11 consecutive home victories in European competition, producing a devastating first-half performance to secure a commanding 6-0 victory over Fenerbahce in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

European nights at Villa Park have become synonymous with success, but the hosts had to overcome a few nervous moments before taking complete control. Despite building a three-goal advantage before the interval, Aston Villa were briefly made to withstand pressure from their opponents before asserting their dominance.

Johan Manzambi marked his 21st birthday in memorable fashion by opening the scoring, although his effort took a significant deflection off Milan Skriniar on its way into the net. The hosts then survived three dangerous situations before settling into their rhythm and taking charge of the contest.

Vedat Muriqi had two opportunities to restore parity but was denied on both occasions by Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. Fenerbahce continued to threaten, with Oguz Aydin coming agonisingly close to finding the net when his effort from a tight angle crashed against the crossbar.

However, while the Yellow Canaries struggled to convert their chances, Nicolas Jackson proved far more clinical. The Senegalese striker struck twice in quick succession, extending Aston Villa’s advantage and putting the Villans firmly in control before the half-time whistle.

After Boubacar Kamara won back possession inside the Fenerbahce half, Nicolas Jackson made the most of the opportunity, firing a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner. The Senegalese forward struck again just eight minutes later, finding the same corner from a similar position to complete his brace and further strengthen Aston Villa’s commanding lead.

Fenerbahce managed to keep Aston Villa at bay for the first 23 minutes of the second half, but their resistance eventually came to an end. Johan Manzambi used his quick footwork to outmanoeuvre Ismail Yuksek, who lunged into a challenge and brought down the Swiss attacker inside the penalty area.

Ross Barkley confidently converted the resulting penalty, sending the ball into the bottom corner to extend Aston Villa’s advantage. The midfielder then struck again just four minutes later, with his effort taking another significant deflection that left Fenerbahce goalkeeper Ederson with no chance of making the save.

Despite their outstanding record in European competition at Villa Park, the emphatic result was a welcome boost for Aston Villa in front of their home supporters, marking their first home victory of the season.

The result also extended Fenerbahce’s disappointing record against Aston Villa, with the Turkish side having now lost all four meetings between the teams without scoring a single goal. Substitute Tammy Abraham added the finishing touch in stoppage time, tapping home to complete a humiliating 6-0 defeat for the visitors.
