Antonsen books Popov showdown with impressive Denmark open victory

Antonsen battles past Alwi Farhan to set up Denmark Open semi-final clash with Popov
Anders Antonsen continued his impressive run at the Denmark Open on Friday, defeating Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan in straight games to book his place in the semi-finals.
The fifth-seeded Dane secured a 21-17, 21-16 victory over the world No. 10 in a competitive quarter-final, moving one step closer to claiming his third title at Denmark’s premier badminton tournament.
Farhan, a former World Junior Championships winner, has been making strides on the senior circuit. The 21-year-old Indonesian has built a reputation for his speed, agility and powerful attacking game, but Antonsen proved difficult to overcome on home soil in Odense.
Backed by an enthusiastic home crowd, Antonsen produced a composed performance in a fiercely contested opening game. Both players covered the court exceptionally well, exchanging attacking shots and fighting for every point.
Farhan briefly threatened to take control after winning four consecutive rallies to close the gap to 14-13. However, Antonsen responded with a decisive run, claiming the next six points to move within reach of the opening game at 20-13.
The Dane then faced a late challenge as Farhan fought back to 17-20. Nevertheless, Antonsen held his nerve during a lengthy rally to close out the first game 21-17.
Antonsen carried that momentum into the second game, racing into an early 7-2 lead. Farhan refused to back down, however, punishing short shots with steep smashes and gradually working his way back into the contest.
The Indonesian drew level at 9-9, forcing Antonsen to adjust his approach and disrupt his opponent’s rhythm. The home favourite subsequently regained control, establishing a 15-12 advantage before Farhan required medical attention after a shuttlecock struck him in the eye.
Following the brief interruption, Antonsen remained focused on completing the victory. He eventually converted his first match point when Farhan sent a shot beyond the boundary, sealing a 21-17, 21-16 win.
The victory sets up a Denmark Open semi-final showdown against France’s Christo Popov, the tournament’s second seed, on Saturday.
With the home crowd firmly behind him, Antonsen will now look to take another step towards a third Denmark Open crown as his impressive campaign continues.
