Johan Manzambi has expressed his satisfaction with choosing Aston Villa over Newcastle United, after scoring the decisive goal in his side’s 1-0 victory at St James’ Park on Saturday, October 17.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined Unai Emery’s Aston Villa following an impressive World Cup campaign with Switzerland, during which he registered three goals and one assist across four appearances.

Before completing his move to Villa, Manzambi was reportedly close to signing for Newcastle. However, Emery’s side intervened late in the process, convincing the midfielder to join them instead.

The transfer decision proved particularly sweet on Saturday, as Manzambi’s goal secured all three points for Villa against the very club he had nearly joined. His decisive contribution helped the visitors claim a valuable 1-0 Premier League victory at St James’ Park.

Reflecting on the result, Manzambi expressed his delight at finding the net but emphasised that securing the win was more important than his individual achievement.

“I’m very happy to score today and I hope the next game both of us can score. But the most important (thing) is the three points,” he said.

The midfielder also praised the quality of his new teammates and highlighted Emery’s influence in making Aston Villa the right destination for his career.

“The team was really good. I played against this team in the final (of the Europa League) and it’s a very good team with a big coach and I knew that was perfect for me,” Manzambi added.

His comments underline his confidence in the decision to join Villa, with the midfielder already making a significant impact against a direct Premier League rival.

For Emery, Manzambi’s match-winning performance offers further encouragement that the summer signing can become an important part of the club’s plans as Aston Villa continue their campaign
