Badminton star an Se-young makes history with record-breaking women’s singles titles

An Se-young makes Badminton history with record 47th international singles title
South Korean badminton sensation An Se-young has made history by claiming a record 47th international singles title after winning the Denmark Open, further cementing her status as one of the sport’s greatest players.
The world No. 1 produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, ranked third globally, 21-23, 21-14, 21-18 in an exciting final in Odense, Denmark, on Sunday.
Following her latest triumph, An explained that the opportunity to break records continues to motivate her, although she remains focused on taking each match as it comes.
“I want to make a lot of history and break records, but I focus on one match at a time,” An told the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
She also expressed her appreciation for the support she receives from fans, adding that she was delighted to see spectators enjoying her performances.
The BWF subsequently confirmed on social media that An’s Denmark Open victory marked her 47th international championship title, moving her one clear of Indonesian badminton legend Susi Susanti. The governing body clarified that the historical record, maintained since 1989, excludes titles won at regional games.
An Se-young Continues Remarkable 2026 Campaign
An’s latest achievement adds to an outstanding season in which she has collected six titles on the BWF World Tour, alongside gold medals at the Asian Championships, the BWF World Championships, and the Asian Games in 2026, according to the supplied report.
Her consistency has been particularly impressive. The South Korean star has suffered just one defeat throughout the season, coming in the final of the All England Open in March.
That level of dominance has further strengthened her position at the top of women’s badminton, with An continuing to set new standards through her consistency, resilience, and ability to deliver under pressure.
French Open Next on An’s Schedule
There will be little time for An to celebrate her latest milestone, with the French Open next on her schedule this week.
The South Korean previously won the tournament in 2019, 2024, and 2025, and will now look to extend her impressive record at the event.
With another major competition approaching, An will aim to carry her winning momentum into France as she continues her pursuit of further titles and a place among badminton’s all-time greats.
