NHL roundup: Brady Tkachuk faces hostile reception in Ottawa return as Flyers extend winning Streak to three

NHL roundup: Senators Rout Panthers as Brady Tkachuk faces hostile Ottawa return, Flyers win third straight
Brady Tkachuk received a hostile reception in his first game back in Ottawa following his departure from the Senators, while the Philadelphia Flyers continued their resurgence with a third consecutive victory.
Senators 5-1 Panthers
The Ottawa Senators made sure their former captain received an unforgettable welcome back, with fans at the Canadian Tire Centre expressing their displeasure throughout the game.
Ahead of the matchup, Tkachuk described Ottawa as a “special place”. However, supporters were less than impressed after the forward reportedly shifted his stance on remaining with the franchise long-term, instead expressing a desire to play for a contender despite the Senators reaching the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.
The crowd made its feelings clear before the opening face-off, with chants of “Brady sucks!” ringing around the arena. Some supporters even threw their Tkachuk jerseys onto the ice.
Despite the hostile atmosphere, Tkachuk initially had the last laugh, opening the scoring for the Florida Panthers to register his seventh goal of the season. His brother, Matthew Tkachuk, provided the assist.
However, the Senators responded just four minutes later when star forward Tim Stützle levelled the score at 1-1, igniting the home crowd.
From that point onwards, Ottawa took control of the contest.
Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto scored in the second period to give the Senators a 3-1 advantage before Warren Foegele and Stephen Halliday struck short-handed goals in the third to complete a commanding 5-1 victory.
Ottawa dominated the shot count throughout the game, finishing with 29 shots on goal compared with Florida’s 18. The victory lifted the Senators to a 7-3-0 record for the season.
The home side converted one of its nine power-play opportunities, while Florida managed one goal from five chances.
The defeat left the Panthers with a 5-3-2 record, as Ottawa celebrated an emphatic win on a night dominated by the drama surrounding Tkachuk’s return.
Flyers 3-1 Sabres
The Philadelphia Flyers continued their impressive turnaround by defeating the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 to secure their third consecutive victory.
After enduring a difficult opening stretch of 0-6-3 across their first nine games, the Flyers are beginning to find their rhythm. They have now scored exactly three goals in each of their three successive wins.
Rookie Cole Knuble stole the spotlight by scoring the first two goals of his NHL career, while Trevor Zegras added another goal to complete Philadelphia’s scoring.
Goaltender Dan Vladar also played a crucial role, recording 27 saves to help the Flyers secure another important result.
Vladar endured a challenging start to the campaign, allowing seven goals, three goals and five goals across his first three starts. However, the netminder has since rediscovered his form and looks increasingly comfortable between the pipes.
He has conceded just four goals across his last three starts, allowing no more than two in any of those appearances. The latest performance also marked his second consecutive start in which he conceded only one goal.
With three straight victories, Philadelphia is showing encouraging signs of recovery after its disappointing start to the season.
Meanwhile, Buffalo slipped to a 4-4-2 record after suffering consecutive defeats, leaving the Sabres searching for a response in their next outing.
