Hull City extended their winless run to seven matches across all competitions (D4, L3) after Brentford fought back to secure a 1-1 draw at the MKM Stadium in the Premier League.

Following their first league defeat of the season against Liverpool last weekend, Brentford were eager to make a strong start. They quickly tested Konstantinos Tzolakis when Michael Kayode’s trademark long throw was flicked on by Sepp van den Berg.

Hull also posed a threat at the other end, with Mohamed Belloumi, one of the first-half standouts, curling a free-kick narrowly over the crossbar.

Tzolakis was called into action once more to deny Aaron Hickey from the edge of the penalty area. However, Hickey’s next significant contribution came at the opposite end when he conceded a penalty.

The defender was partly let down by a poor pass from Caoimhin Kelleher, which Tim Iroegbunam intercepted before the mistake led to the spot-kick.

Oli McBurnie stepped up and calmly placed the penalty into the bottom corner, scoring his first goal of the campaign and putting Hull ahead going into half-time.

The game had been relatively subdued during the opening stages, but it came to life after the hour mark when Brentford found their equaliser.

Ryan Giles failed to deal with a cross, allowing the ball to fall to Igor Thiago. His mis-hit effort fortunately reached Dango Ouattara, who finished from close range to score his first goal of the season.

Hull nearly regained the lead immediately through Belloumi, who skilfully beat two defenders before firing into the side-netting from a tight angle.

With the result still uncertain in the closing stages, Jaidon Anthony narrowly missed the target with a long-range effort before Mohamed-Ali Cho forced a save from Kelleher.

Brentford appeared the more likely side to snatch a late winner, but both Anthony and Ouattara wasted promising opportunities with headers.

Both teams ultimately had to settle for a point in their first-ever meeting in the top flight, with neither side able to halt their inconsistent form.

Brentford have now managed just one win in their last seven league matches, drawing five and losing one. Hull, meanwhile, can take some encouragement from maintaining their unbeaten home record, having recorded one victory and three draws on their own turf.
