Iraola expects more goals from Isak after Brighton strike for Liverpool

Andoni Iraola believes Alexander Isak is rediscovering his best form after the Liverpool striker scored again in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Brighton.
Iraola’s team struck twice in quick succession during the first half at Anfield, with a Pascal Gross own goal followed by another finish from Isak.
The Swedish international has now scored six goals in seven league appearances this season, including three in his last four matches.
After a difficult debut campaign following his controversial £125 million move from Newcastle United, Isak is beginning to demonstrate why Liverpool invested so heavily in him.
“If we can put him in those positions, we can provide him good crosses, good situations, he will score the goals,” Iraola said.
He also highlighted the importance of winning individual battles and creating space in attacking areas, explaining that beating opponents one-on-one and finding the right positions can make a significant difference.
The victory marked a memorable Premier League milestone for Iraola, who had failed to win any of his first three league matches at Anfield since arriving from Bournemouth during the summer.
Having already secured Champions League and EFL Cup victories at the famous stadium, the Spaniard has now guided Liverpool to four consecutive wins in all competitions following their disappointing 3-0 home defeat against Manchester City.
Liverpool have climbed to fourth place in the Premier League, just one point behind third-placed Brighton after handing the Seagulls their second league defeat of the season.
The Reds remain six points behind leaders Manchester City as they continue to build momentum in the race for the title.
“Very happy for today, very happy overall for this fourth win,” Iraola said.
“We faced a very good opposition and it was key how we started today. We needed a strong start, be aggressive, recover balls, win our duels, be dangerous in transitions.
“I think we’ve done that and it has been a different game from the last ones, where we’ve conceded first.
“After, you need the comeback. Today we’ve started better and the game has gone differently.”
Liverpool playmaker Florian Wirtz was forced off with an ankle injury, although Iraola was hopeful the problem would not keep him out for long.
“Unfortunately, he had to leave the pitch with a small twist of the ankle,” he said.
“It doesn’t look very big, but we are playing every three days so we need to see where he is.”
Despite suffering defeat, Brighton enjoyed plenty of possession, controlling 64 per cent of the ball and registering 17 shots. However, only one attempt was on target, while Yasin Ayari struck the post.
The result ended Brighton’s impressive run of more than nine hours without conceding a goal.
Seagulls manager Fabian Hurzeler felt his side deserved a better outcome, praising his players for their attacking approach despite Liverpool’s disciplined defensive performance.
“I think everyone in the stadium saw that there was one team who really tried to create and try to win this game and therefore I have to praise my players,” Hurzeler said.
“There was a missed opportunity for us. Before they scored, we had one, two big chances and I think it was just the difference that they scored, we didn’t score.
“They kept a clean sheet because they defended well. They blocked a lot of shots. They really defended the box well. We didn’t have that efficiency.”
