Sergio Perez extends Cadillac deal through 2029 in major contract move

Sergio Perez extends Cadillac contract until 2029 in major Formula 1 commitment
Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year contract extension with Cadillac, keeping the Mexican driver with the American team until the end of the 2029 Formula 1 season, the team announced on Wednesday.
The agreement underlines Perez’s commitment to Cadillac’s long-term ambitions as the team continues to establish itself in Formula 1 following its arrival on the grid.
The 36-year-old is set to celebrate a major career milestone this weekend at his home race, the Mexico City Grand Prix, where he is scheduled to make his 300th Grand Prix start.
A six-time Grand Prix winner, Perez joined Cadillac for the team’s debut season, bringing extensive experience from more than a decade competing at the highest level of motorsport.
Perez Commits to Cadillac’s Long-Term Project
Perez said extending his contract was a natural step after choosing to join Cadillac at the beginning of its Formula 1 journey.
“Joining Cadillac from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,” Perez said in a statement.
The Mexican driver acknowledged that building a competitive Formula 1 team from scratch requires patience, consistent effort and a long-term vision.
“Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding,” he added.
“There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.”
The extension provides Cadillac with continuity and experience as it works to develop its operations and compete more consistently against established teams.
An Experienced Driver with Proven Formula 1 Credentials
Perez has competed in Formula 1 since 2011, establishing himself as one of the sport’s most experienced drivers.
During his career, he has secured six Grand Prix victories and demonstrated his ability to compete at the front of the field.
His most successful championship campaigns came during his time with Red Bull Racing, finishing third in the 2022 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship before claiming second place in 2023 behind teammate Max Verstappen.
That experience could prove valuable to Cadillac as the team develops its car, builds its engineering structure and works to close the gap to the sport’s leading competitors.
Cadillac Looks to the Future with Perez
Retaining Perez through 2029 represents a significant commitment from Cadillac, which is seeking to build a competitive and sustainable presence in Formula 1.
The Mexican’s experience, technical feedback and understanding of the demands of a full championship campaign could play an important role in the team’s long-term development.
With his future now secured, Perez can focus on helping Cadillac progress while continuing his own career in the sport.
The contract extension signals that both sides believe in the project’s potential, with the coming seasons expected to be crucial as Cadillac works towards its ambitions in the world’s premier single-seater racing championship.
