Ronald Araujo has insisted that it is too early to discuss a permanent move to Liverpool, despite making an impressive start to his loan spell at Anfield.

The former Barcelona captain has quickly established himself as Liverpool’s first-choice right-back, even though he traditionally prefers playing in central defence.

Liverpool reportedly have a £47 million option to sign Ronald Araujo permanently. However, it remains unclear whether the six-time European champions will commit to that fee for the Uruguayan international, who turns 28 in March.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Villarreal, Araujo played down speculation about his long-term future, stressing that he is currently focused on settling into life at Liverpool.

“It’s very early to talk about these things,” the defender said.

“I’m really happy to be here, my family are also very happy, but it’s a bit early to be talking about these things.”

Having already made 10 appearances for Liverpool, Araujo has earned the support of the fans and appears to have adapted well to the demands of the Premier League.

The defender acknowledged that playing for a major club like Liverpool comes with significant expectations and responsibility, but said his previous experience at Barcelona had helped prepare him for the challenge.

“Coming to Liverpool, it’s not easy,” he explained. “There are those demands, that responsibility. Personally, I’d already experienced that at Barcelona.”

He added that adapting to a major club depends largely on a player’s personality and willingness to embrace new challenges.

“It depends on the personality of each player and how they face that challenge. I knew it was a new challenge coming to the Premier League, but from the first moment I arrived, I had no doubts I had to give everything here. And that’s how I live it.”

“It’s not easy to be in big sides, but that’s what we came to do. That’s the work we have to do.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool have made a positive start to their Champions League campaign, collecting two victories from their opening two league-phase matches against Atletico Madrid and LASK.

With Araujo already making a strong impression at Anfield, his performances could prove crucial in determining whether Liverpool decide to activate their purchase option. For now, however, the defender appears content to focus on his football rather than make any commitments about his future.
