Arsenal Chief delivers Arteta contract update as new deal nears

Arteta’s Arsenal future set to be secured with new deal soon
Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a new contract with Premier League champions Arsenal “very shortly”, according to the club’s chief executive Richard Garlick.
Arteta guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, but the Spanish manager has entered the final year of his current contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Although Arteta has repeatedly indicated that he is happy at Arsenal, the lack of progress over a new agreement had raised questions among supporters about his long-term future.
Those concerns now appear to be fading, with Garlick revealing that Arteta’s contract extension is close to being finalised.
“Mikel wants to be at Arsenal and we want Mikel at Arsenal. It’s only a matter of time before we put that into a new contract,” Garlick told the BBC.
“Everyone is very confident and calm. We’re just navigating a transfer window and I’m sure Mikel’s contract will be resolved very shortly.”
The 44-year-old has transformed Arsenal since taking charge in 2019, turning the Gunners into regular title contenders and guiding them to last season’s Champions League final alongside their Premier League triumph.
Arteta previously signed a contract extension in September 2024, and his next deal is reportedly expected to be completed once this month’s transfer window comes to an end.
The Spaniard has played a central role in Arsenal’s recent resurgence, and securing his long-term future would provide further stability as the club looks to build on its domestic success.
Arsenal will begin their Premier League title defence at home against newly promoted Coventry City on Friday, with Arteta set to lead the champions into another season with expectations high at the Emirates.
