Australia name two potential debutants in wallabies squad for nations Championship tests

Australia head coach Les Kiss has named two uncapped players, scrum-half Teddy Wilson and prop Tom Lambert, in a 33-man squad for the 2026 Nations Championship fixtures against England, Scotland and Wales in November.

The selections offer both players an opportunity to make their international debuts as the Wallabies prepare for a challenging series of away matches against three of the northern hemisphere’s leading rugby nations.

Wilson, who plays for the New South Wales Waratahs, is the son of former World Cup-winning Wallaby David Wilson. He joins fellow scrum-halves Ryan Lonergan and Tate McDermott in the squad.

Lambert has also earned his place following a strong season with the Waratahs, giving Australia another option in the front row ahead of the November international window.

Carter Gordon Returns as Experienced Players Are Recalled

Fly-half Carter Gordon has been recalled to the squad despite continuing his recovery from a broken leg sustained against Argentina.

Australia have also welcomed back several overseas-based forwards, including prop Taniela Tupou, loose forward Tom Hooper and lock Miles Amatosero, strengthening the squad ahead of the upcoming tests.

However, a number of players have been left out following Australia’s consecutive defeats to New Zealand. Those omitted include Nick Champion de Crespigny, Toby Macpherson, Zane Nonggor, Aidan Ross, Harry McLaughlin-Phillips, Jordan Petaia and Kalani Thomas.

Meanwhile, injuries have ruled out several key players, including overseas-based lock Will Skelton, loose forward Charlie Cale and scrum-half Jake Gordon.

The selection changes reflect Kiss’s efforts to balance fresh talent with experience as Australia look to improve their performances against top international opposition.

Wallabies Look to Bounce Back After Disappointing Home Series

Australia enter the November fixtures looking to respond after a difficult July campaign in the Nations Championship, during which they lost two of their three home tests against northern hemisphere opposition, falling to France and Ireland.

The Wallabies will begin their November campaign against England at Twickenham on November 8, before taking on Scotland and Wales.

The opening fixture against England is expected to provide a demanding test for Kiss’s side, with Australia aiming to build momentum and demonstrate progress against established international rivals.

The inclusion of Wilson and Lambert also provides an opportunity for the newcomers to make an immediate impression if selected to play.

What Is the 2026 Nations Championship?

The inaugural Nations Championship brings together 12 international teams from the northern and southern hemispheres in a new competition spanning the July and November international windows.

Across six rounds, the participating nations will compete before gathering at Twickenham Stadium from November 27-29, 2026, for the tournament’s finals weekend.

The competition is designed to create a more structured series of international fixtures, giving supporters additional high-profile clashes between leading rugby nations.

For Australia, the November campaign represents an important opportunity to assess squad depth, integrate emerging players and improve results against some of the world’s strongest teams.
