Carlos Alcaraz to lead Spain’s Davis Cup squad under captain David Ferrer

Carlos Alcaraz will headline a strong Spain Davis Cup team after captain David Ferrer announced his squad on Monday ahead of the upcoming finals.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion will be joined by rising talent Rafael Jodar, alongside Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez as Spain aim to claim their first Davis Cup title since 2019.

“We have a very good team, without a doubt,” Ferrer said.

“I’m happy to have all the players available and very excited.

“Obviously, we’re one of the favourites to win the Davis Cup, but that’s okay. It’s always better to have the best players.”

World number three Alcaraz missed four months of the season because of a wrist injury before returning to action at the US Open. He subsequently made a winning return to the title stage by triumphing at the Japan Open in Tokyo earlier in October.

Spain, who finished as runners-up last year, will compete in Bologna, Italy, from November 24 to 29 as they look to add another Davis Cup crown to their collection.

Their campaign will begin with a quarter-final clash against Austria, with a potential semi-final against either Great Britain or Germany awaiting them if they progress.

With Alcaraz leading the lineup and several established players alongside him, Spain will be looking to turn their strong squad into another successful Davis Cup campaign.
