Chelsea have officially announced the signing of experienced Premier League midfielder Jordan Henderson after the former England international reached an agreement to end his contract with Brentford.

The 36-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Blues, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2028, marking a notable change in Chelsea’s recent transfer approach.

While Chelsea have traditionally focused on recruiting young talents, the club have responded to manager Xabi Alonso’s desire for more experience by adding proven figures such as Henderson and Brighton striker Danny Welbeck.

Speaking after completing his move, Henderson revealed his excitement about joining one of England’s biggest clubs.

“Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity that I couldn’t turn down,” Henderson said.

“I was also impressed by how much the ownership want Chelsea to succeed and continue moving in the right direction.”

The midfielder added that he is determined to make a positive impact both on and off the pitch.

“For me, it’s about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I’m very excited to get started.”

Henderson brings a wealth of experience to Chelsea, having made 463 Premier League appearances throughout his career. The majority of those matches came during his successful spell with Liverpool, where he became club captain after joining from Sunderland as a young player.

After his time at Anfield, Henderson moved abroad with spells in Saudi Arabia and Ajax before returning to the Premier League with Brentford. Last season, he featured in 34 matches across all competitions and earned a recall to the England squad for the World Cup.

However, Chelsea supporters may have to wait before seeing Henderson in action, with the midfielder currently recovering from a broken arm suffered while on international duty.
