Luka Modric remains available for international duty with Croatia, the country’s football federation (HNS) confirmed on Saturday, putting an end to speculation that the veteran midfielder could retire from international football following this year’s World Cup.

Croatia captain Modric, who will turn 41 on Wednesday, has represented his country since making his debut in 2006. He has earned more than 200 international caps and played a key role in Croatia’s historic run to the 2018 World Cup final.

“Luka’s decision makes me extremely happy. We all know what he brings to Croatia, both on and off the pitch,” said Slaven Bilic, who returned for a second spell as Croatia manager after the team were eliminated from this year’s World Cup in the round of 32.

Modric spent the majority of his illustrious career with Real Madrid before joining AC Milan last year.

Croatia are scheduled to travel to the Czech Republic, host England and face Spain twice in the Nations League between September 26 and October 6.
