Senegal international Idrissa Gueye has joined newly promoted Saudi Pro League side Diriyah as a free agent following his departure from Everton, the club announced on Sunday.

“Idrissa is one of ours. His experience is an asset,” Diriyah said in a post on X, although the Saudi club did not reveal further details of the agreement.

According to local media reports, the 36-year-old midfielder has signed a one-year contract with Diriyah, with an option to extend the deal for another season.

Gueye left Everton in July after spending seven seasons across two spells with the Premier League club. In between those periods, he spent three years with French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The midfielder began his European career with Lille before establishing himself as one of Senegal’s most experienced players.

Gueye has earned more than 130 caps for the Senegal national team and was part of the squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, securing the country’s first continental title.

He now becomes the latest experienced name to join Diriyah, following the arrivals of Democratic Republic of Congo captain Chancel Mbemba and Bosnia and Herzegovina goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.

The Saudi side secured promotion to the Saudi Pro League and will be hoping Gueye’s experience can help them compete at the top level of Saudi football.
