Nathan Garrow xceited for new chapter with Stellenbosch FC after South Africa return

Nathan Garrow is looking forward to a new challenge with Stellenbosch FC after returning to his country of birth following a breakthrough period in New Zealand football.

The goalkeeper made a name for himself at the FIFA Club World Cup last year, producing a standout performance for Auckland City as the New Zealand side held Argentine giants Boca Juniors to a memorable 1-1 draw.

Despite being only 20 years old at the time, Garrow impressed with a series of crucial saves on the global stage before helping Auckland City secure another New Zealand national title at the end of 2025.

Born in Cape Town, Garrow has now returned to South Africa to join Stellenbosch FC, following the path of fellow New Zealand-based player Andre de Jong, who later moved to Orlando Pirates.

Speaking about his return home, Garrow admitted he is excited about beginning a new chapter in his career.

“I was born in Cape Town and left for New Zealand when I was a year old, where I grew up, but it’s good to return home. I always wanted to come back, and it’s great to be here to try something new.”

The goalkeeper also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to start his professional career with Stellenbosch.

“I’m very excited to be part of Stellenbosch Football Club and grateful to have received my first professional opportunity.”

Garrow revealed that positive feedback from people around the club helped convince him that Stellenbosch FC was the right place to continue his development.

“I heard about Stellenbosch through a couple of people who all spoke highly of the club in many different ways, and after talking to my agent, we thought it would be a good opportunity and a good club for me to develop.”

Garrow Ready for Competition at Stellenbosch FC

The young goalkeeper will compete with Sage Stephens for the starting position after Stellenbosch FC began searching for another goalkeeper following the retirement of Lee Langeveldt.

Garrow has already noticed the differences between football in South Africa and New Zealand, describing the local game as faster and more intense.

“It’s a very different game in South Africa, very fast-paced, and the football is really exciting. I’m enjoying the change so far and will get more and more used to it with time.”

The 21-year-old is also impressed by the environment at Stellenbosch and believes the club has the quality to enjoy a successful season.

“I’m also excited by the setup we have here and will do all I can to earn my place. I think it’s going to be a very strong year.”

With a talented squad and experienced coaching staff, Garrow is confident Stellenbosch FC can deliver an exciting campaign for their supporters.

“We have good coaches and players, and I think we’re all looking forward to putting on a show for the fans this season.”
