Ghana’s Mohammed Fuseini unharmed after being robbed in Brussels

Mohammed Fuseini safe after violent robbery in Brussels
Ghana international Mohammed Fuseini has returned to training after being the victim of a violent robbery in broad daylight in Brussels, his club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed.
The 24-year-old forward was taken to hospital for precautionary checks following the incident on Sunday before being cleared to resume full training the following day. Fuseini rejoined his teammates during the club’s scheduled pre-season session on Monday.
Speaking to Belgian media, Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed the winger had escaped without suffering any serious injuries.
“Physically, the damage is limited. He trained normally with us again yesterday,” club spokesperson Thijs Roelen said, while acknowledging that the incident had understandably left the player shaken.
Violent Daylight Attack
According to reports from Belgian media outlets Het Laatste Nieuws, BRUZZ and FCUpdate, Fuseini was sitting inside his parked car in Brussels on Sunday afternoon when he was approached by five hooded attackers.
Video footage circulating on social media and Belgian television reportedly shows the group surrounding the vehicle before dragging the Ghanaian international from the car and placing him in a chokehold.
The attackers stole two iPhones, his wallet and a Rolex Datejust watch, reportedly valued at between €8,000 and €14,000, before throwing him to the ground and fleeing the scene.
Fuseini was subsequently taken to hospital, where he underwent medical examinations before being discharged later that day.
Police Make Arrest
The Brussels Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Tuesday that one suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery.
Investigators believe the same group may also have been responsible for two other violent robberies in Brussels on the same day, with pedestrians reportedly targeted as they returned to their vehicles.
Union Saint-Gilloise thanked the Brussels Police for their swift response and confirmed the club is continuing to provide support to Fuseini following the traumatic incident.
Key Player for Union Saint-Gilloise
Despite the ordeal, Fuseini remains an important figure in David Hubert’s squad and is regarded as one of the club’s most influential attacking players.
The Ghanaian played a crucial role in Union Saint-Gilloise’s historic 2024/25 Belgian Pro League title-winning campaign, scoring nine league goals throughout the season.
He also delivered one of the club’s defining moments by scoring an extra-time stoppage-time goal in a 3-1 victory over RSC Anderlecht in the Belgian Cup Final, helping secure another memorable trophy for the Brussels club.
