Kaizer Chiefs learn possible CAF Confederation Cup opponents after preliminary draw

Kaizer Chiefs will face either Red Arrows of Zambia or Madagascar’s FC Rouge in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after the draw for the 2026/27 competition was made on Thursday.

The South African giants received a bye into the second preliminary round, meaning they are just one tie away from securing a place in the group stage.

However, Chiefs have been handed a potentially difficult assignment, with Red Arrows expected to provide a stern test should they overcome FC Rouge in the opening round. While the Malagasy side may appear the more favourable opponent on paper, neither fixture will be straightforward as Amakhosi aim to go one better than last season’s group-stage exit.

Durban City begin in the first preliminary round

Fellow South African side Durban City will start their continental campaign in the first preliminary round against Rukinzo FC of Burundi.

Should Durban City progress, they will face either AS Port Louis 2000 of Mauritius or Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy for a place in the group stage.
