Yuto Katsuragawa wins Genesis championship in South Korea to secure DP world tour play-off spot

Japan’s Yuto Katsuragawa claimed the Genesis Championship in South Korea on Sunday, securing a two-shot victory and describing the achievement as the greatest moment of his life.

The overnight leader kept his composure throughout the final round at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club, finishing ahead of French golfers Frédéric Lacroix and Martin Couvra to capture his second title on the DP World Tour.

Katsuragawa produced an outstanding performance in Saturday’s third round, matching the course record with a stunning 63. He followed that display with a steady final-round 71, finishing at even par for the day to seal the championship.

The victory marks his first title since 2024 and represents a significant milestone in the 28-year-old’s professional career.

“After the first win I had such a hard time, struggling with that time,” Katsuragawa said.

“But having the second win, this is definitely the greatest moment of my life.”

Katsuragawa Holds His Nerve to Secure Victory

Starting the final round with a two-shot advantage, Katsuragawa delivered a controlled performance under pressure, recording one birdie and one bogey to protect his lead and secure the trophy.

His triumph also guarantees his DP World Tour card for next season and earns him a place in the season-ending play-offs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Reflecting on his success, Katsuragawa explained that he drew confidence from his previous victory and focused on maintaining a positive mindset throughout the tournament.

“I had a good image from the first victory, I just kept that good feeling about it and I came for the second win,” he said.

The Japanese golfer also expressed his excitement about continuing his career on the DP World Tour, highlighting how important the opportunity was to him.

“I’m very happy because to play on the DP World Tour is something I need in my life and I am very happy to play in Dubai,” he added.

Ryan Fox Finishes Three Shots Behind

Meanwhile, Ryan Fox, winner of the Open Championship, finished three shots behind Katsuragawa after carding a final-round 70, one under par.

Fox was unable to close the gap on the Japanese leader, who maintained his advantage to complete a memorable victory in South Korea.

For Katsuragawa, the Genesis Championship triumph provides renewed momentum heading into the final events of the season, with a place in the DP World Tour play-offs now secured.
