Man Utd await Zubimendi decision as Madrid midfield move could open up
Manchester United could have a late opportunity to strengthen their midfield if Real Madrid step up their interest in Martin Zubimendi, with the potential move possibly opening the door for one of the Spanish giants’ midfielders to leave.
United are hoping to make further additions late in the transfer window, with a midfield position still available in their squad
The Red Devils have been linked with both Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, although the chances of landing either player appeared to be fading after United missed out on Rodri, who is now set to join Barcelona.
However, Real Madrid’s growing interest in Martin Zubimendi could change the situation.
Zubimendi’s position at Arsenal is also understood to have become less certain following the club’s signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, while Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in bringing the midfielder to Madrid if a deal can be agreed.
Early indications suggest Zubimendi would be open to a move to the Spanish capital, and any progress could have a knock-on effect on Madrid’s current midfield options.
Meanwhile, United are preparing to open talks with Bruno Fernandes over a new contract after Galatasaray attempted to tempt the Portugal international away from the Premier League.
Juventus also considered a move for Fernandes this summer, but United have made it clear that the midfielder remains a hugely influential part of their plans.
The club are continuing to search for further reinforcements and are particularly keen to sign a new left-back before the transfer window closes.
Despite expectations that more arrivals would have already been completed, Michael Carrick remains patient as United wait for late opportunities in the market.
Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans are currently the only outfield additions made by the club this summer.
