Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi has outlined Wolves’ primary objective for the new season after returning from a loan spell with Paris FC.

The 30-year-old midfielder spent the second half of the 2025-26 campaign in France, where he enjoyed a productive stint with Paris FC. He made 15 appearances, scored four goals, and registered one assist, playing an important role in helping the club secure a comfortable mid-table finish in Ligue 1.

Before joining Paris FC on loan, Munetsi featured 15 times for Wolves during the first half of the season. He found the net in a Premier League match against Burnley and also scored in the club’s Carabao Cup victory over Everton at Molineux.

His campaign was interrupted by a calf injury that sidelined him for six weeks, forcing the Zimbabwe captain to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Munetsi has now returned to a Wolves side preparing for life in the EFL Championship after suffering relegation from the Premier League. The club endured a difficult campaign, spending much of the season at the foot of the table before ending their eight-year stay in England’s top flight.

Speaking after rejoining pre-season training, Munetsi said the club’s clear focus is to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

“The objective for the club now is getting back, and the chairman has made it clear to all the players that this is the ambition of the club, and the club deserves to be in the top flight,” Munetsi told the club’s official website.

He also praised the impact of Wolves’ new manager, saying the squad has responded positively to the intensity introduced during pre-season.

“The new manager has come in with a lot of fire, and it’s been seen with the training sessions. Everybody’s really working hard to make sure that when the season starts, we’ll be ready to put this club back where it deserves.”

Munetsi believes confidence has been the key to rediscovering his best form, describing it as one of the most important qualities a footballer can possess alongside natural ability.

“The best attribute for any player, besides talent, is confidence. When you’re confident, you’re able to do anything. Even if you shoot from 40 yards out, if you’re confident, you can score,” he said.

Reflecting on last season, the Zimbabwe international admitted Wolves’ difficult start affected his form, making the temporary move to Paris FC an important opportunity to reset.

“We had a difficult start here last season; it wasn’t what we had anticipated. Going to Paris on loan gave me the chance to experience a different environment, rebuild my confidence and become the player I know I can be.”

Now back at Wolves, Munetsi is optimistic about working under new head coach Cesar Peixoto, believing the Portuguese has the qualities needed to guide the club back to the Premier League.

The midfielder revealed he had previously watched Peixoto’s teams in Portugal, where the coach managed two of his former teammates, and praised his energetic, high-intensity style of football.

“The way he plays, there’s a lot of intensity and energy in his teams, and that’s exactly what we need in the Championship. From the first day you could feel his passion, and now you can clearly see his ideas, the game model, the discipline, and how he wants the team to work together. Those are the foundations we need to move forward and win games.”

Looking back on his spell in France, Munetsi described the move as a valuable experience both professionally and personally. His main aim was to secure regular playing time while helping Paris FC climb the table, a target he believes was successfully achieved.

“It was a new challenge returning to France with a different club. I joined a team in a difficult situation, and my goal was to help them win as many games as possible. Overall, it was a very positive loan spell.”

Away from football, the 30-year-old joked that the biggest challenge during his time in Paris was dealing with the city’s heavy traffic.

“The worst part was the traffic going to training,” he said with a smile. “My family enjoyed living in a different city and visiting museums and famous landmarks. Wolverhampton is much quieter, and that suits me because I enjoy a peaceful environment and countryside lifestyle. It’s a really nice place to live.”

Munetsi originally joined Wolves from French club Reims, where he made nearly 150 Ligue 1 appearances and scored 21 goals. During his first spell at Molineux, he scored twice in 16 matches, helping Wolves secure another season in the Premier League before the club’s eventual relegation the following campaign.
