Elye Wahi returns to Nice on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt

Elye Wahi has returned to Nice on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, just months after playing a decisive role in helping the French Ligue 1 side avoid relegation.

The 23-year-old Ivory Coast forward initially joined Nice on loan in January, making an immediate impact during the club’s battle for survival.

Wahi became a key figure in the decisive promotion/relegation play-off in May, scoring a late brace against Saint-Etienne to help Nice secure their place in Ligue 1.

Nice confirmed on Monday that Wahi will spend the season back on the Cote d’Azur, with the club also holding an option to make his move permanent at the end of the loan spell.

The return had been widely anticipated after Nice supporters gave Wahi a warm reception at the airport late on Sunday.

He could make his second debut for Nice when the club travels to face Paris FC on Sunday.

According to a source, Nice will pay 1.5 million euros ($1.75 million) for the loan, while the deal includes an option to sign Wahi permanently for 15 million euros.

Wahi scored nine goals in 19 appearances for Nice last season as the club fought to retain their top-flight status.

His return comes after a difficult campaign for Nice, who had finished fourth the previous season and earned a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
