Orlando Pirates ended their pre-season tour of Spain on a winning note after battling back to defeat Cadiz, while Kaizer Chiefs suffered defeat in their final warm-up match against Elche.

The reigning Betway Premiership champions showed plenty of character to secure a 2-1 victory over the Spanish second-tier outfit, bouncing back after being held to a draw by Cordoba earlier in the week.

Pirates fell behind after Ibon Sanchez capitalised on some shaky defending, but the Buccaneers quickly settled and dominated much of the contest.

Returning Bafana Bafana star Tshepang Moremi, who recently rejoined the squad after international duty, restored parity with a thunderous strike from outside the box before Daniel Msendami completed the comeback with a close-range finish before half-time.

The match also saw Nkosinathi Sibisi, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Evidence Makgopa feature after linking up with the squad, while new recruit Neo Rapoo continued to impress, forcing an excellent save with a well-hit free-kick.

There was less to celebrate for Kaizer Chiefs, who finished their Spanish training camp with a 2-1 loss to La Liga side Elche.

The Glamour Boys welcomed back defender Bradley Cross after his extended break following South Africa’s international commitments, but they found themselves two goals behind by the interval after strikes from Ali Houary and Umaru Konare.

Chiefs produced an improved display after the restart, with Asanele Velebayi maintaining his fine pre-season form by coming off the bench to reduce the deficit. However, Nasreddine Nabi’s men were unable to find a late equaliser as their preparations in Spain came to an end.

Chiefs will now shift their attention to the Toyota Cup, where they face Zimbabwean club Scottland FC in Rustenburg next Sunday.

Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over the start of the new Premier Soccer League season, with the full 2026/27 fixture list still yet to be officially released despite the campaign getting underway in less than two weeks.

Pirates are scheduled to kick off their title defence at home against Milford FC on August 1, while Chiefs begin their campaign away to Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium later that evening.
